Amazing Ronald McDonald House Charities Red Shoe Chef Event

A SAFD charity project recently provided floral arrangements for the Ronald McDonald House Charities “Red Shoe Chef” event.  In appreciation for our contribution, we were granted two tickets to the event – attended by Betty Lind and myself.

Our evening at the impressive Bayou City Event Center began with a greeting by Ronald McDonald himself, with his McMobile, and sidekick Grimace. We also got to meet talk show host Deborah Duncan, the master of ceremonies for the event.  On entry to the elegant main ballroom, the event Chair ladies welcomed and introduced us – giving SAFD recognition for the “awesome” floral arrangements.

The entire center was beautifully decorated, with McDonald’s colors of red and yellow dominating the night.  Alternating of varying size tables had yellow, or red and white stripe, tablecloths and red chairs.  Many of the tables were graced by our beautiful arrangements of red roses, white hydrangeas, and yellow calla lilies accented by red hypernicum berries. Each arranged in authentic Happy Meal boxes.  SAFD donated a total of nineteen arrangements in three different sizes – for placement on the dinner tables, judges’ tables, check-in station and bathrooms.

Many guests wore red, and some men were spotted sporting red shoes. (Rocket’s Basketball star, Tracy McGrady had sparkling sequined red sneakers!)  Lots of red glowing bracelets were worn by guests who participated in the event’s games and raffles.  The delicious and different foods were prepared by local, well-known chefs exclusively using McDonald’s ingredients and were cleverly presented in the chain’s traditional containers. Betty and I savored each of the dishes, and actually voted for the winner.

My sincere gratitude to my co-chair, our talented Community Affairs Chair Pam Dube, for her valued contributions on the project. It was indeed a pleasure working with her.  We had lots of fun, and knowing that the project benefited patients at Texas Children’s Hospital was very fulfilling.  Thanks to SAFD for the continued support of these worthwhile charity events.

Thank you, also, to the SAFD members who contributed their time and talent creating the arrangements for this successful event, including: Pam Dube, Betty Lind, Yanick Stam, Marilyn Hunter, Aida Quesada, Mary K. Thiel, and Diane Smith.
