SAFD’s Floral Extravaganza 2016 Tabletop Gala will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Shirley
Acres, located at 217 Woerner Road, Houston, TX 77090. Tickets are $50.00 each for an elegant dinner,
dessert, and silent auction and raffle event. Viewing of tables starts at 5:00 P.M. And dinner starts at 7:00 P.M.
What is “Tabletop Gala”? This event is SAFD’s annual fundraiser which raises monies to fund our
scholarships we offer in floral education or advancement of a floral career. The funds also enable SAFD to
continue our work in the community by funding other fund-raising events in need of floral arrangements, as
well as donations from SAFD with floral arrangements to assisted living and nursing home communities and
other outreach programs we may choose to assist.
Our Gala is usually attended by about 200 to 220 people to view tablescape designs on 20 to 22 tables.
These designs are created by SAFD members, professional florists, and floral organizations.
Each table design must consist of fresh flowers, but can be combined with any prop(s) chosen to
coordinate the tablescape theme. Tables are set for ten guests, but the designer(s) may do settings for six, eight,
or ten people. Photographs will be taken of every tablescape and will be available in CD form or an album form
with our photographer. The tablescape may be as simple or creative as the designer(s) want. It can be personal
or not, can be a particular theme the designer(s) may choose – there are no specific themes for anyone.
Designers can be a SAFD member or friends who want to team up to do the tablescape. The specific guidelines
for each table is set out below.
We welcome everyone to attend – especially if you have even a small interest in flowers and creativity
and what can be created with imagination, talent, and lots of fun. It can be just as simple as entertaining a few
guests for the evening at your home.
The following are specific guidelines for all table designer:
 A title and written description of your tablescape is REQUIRED to be submitted via e-mail to Pam Bates,
at ibpamelac@att.net two weeks prior to the event for inclusion in the program. Please be a little
creative with your design so it intrigues everyone – i.e, how did you decide on your table design, do
the dishes or mementos on the table have a special meaning to you or perhaps been handed down
through family? Designers without a written description will have no commentary in the program. You
are welcome to put a more detailed description of your tablescape on the table.
 All of the tables at Shirley Acres are 72” round, with seating for ten people. Dark wood Chiavari chairs
are provided by Shirley Acres.
 Each designer receives one complimentary dinner ticket. You will be seated at your own table, along
with any guests you wish to invite. Guests’ names (and a check for $50.00 per guest) must be received no
later than April 14, 2016 by Ticket Chairperson (information to follow). All tickets must be paid for in
advance of the gala. No exceptions will be allowed!!
 Set up time for designers is from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. the day of the event. ALL TABLES WILL
HAVE A NUMBER ASSIGNED TO THEM, and you will be provided your table number prior to the
event. Photographs of each tablescape design will begin promptly at 3:00 P.M. If you wish to be
photographed with your table, please make sure you are available at this time when the photographer goes
to each table.
